Topic : JuliaLocations proposal and question

Hello Adrian,

First of all, a big greeting from Macedonia and big support for you and your works! :)

I am trying to use JLocations for a test site, and i have one idea but unfortunately JL needs a few more twaeks in order to fully cover my needs. So, tell me, do you plan any new additions to this exellent extenson?

What i mostly need is integration with JomSocial or CB whatever you like. I would like an option where when a user submits a new location his username and avatar could be visible on the location pages, and also, on his Profile page, there could be links of all locations submitted by this user. What do you think of this?

Second proposal is a good search and filtering options, so users can list locations by categories, counties, cities, etc..

Now, i have one question. I have tried this extension on 3 servers. On 2 of them it works fine, but on the third server it doesn't generate thethumbnails when i submit a picture. What am i missing? What do i have to have in order for JL to generate the required thumbnails?

Best regards!

Max.

Hello,

This is a setting for individual users, it's Joomla related, it is called Default List Length, so users can decide how many items they want per page. You can set it for all users in the global configuration panel.

Thanks for using JuliaPortfolio. If you like it, then please review it in the Joomla extensions directory.

WOW!

Adrian I just found out something. I have now 20 photos and I found out that if I chose from the drop down list to show 5 photos then your ap show me there is 3 pages and also has now the option to click next. This is what I wanted! So now I just need to be able to have the default setting to be 5 on the drop down. Can you tell me how to do that please.

Thanks

- Stephen

Hi Adrian,

Thanks for your comments here. One thing I wish it could have is the columns though. It's nice to have a row of 4 or 5 and then going down from there. I see it is set up so the user can choose how many they want to display on the page from a drop down. Is there a way I can set it to 10 and if they want more they can use the drop down?

I would love to see the option to have a next page. So if I could set how many pictures per page and I had 50 pictures it would show a next button and 12345 at the bottom to click on.

I think you should take this component and kick it up a notch and charge people for it.

I will leave the link at the bottom since it helps you out.

Hello,

I am sorry if the new version dissapoints you, it's not meant to do that :). The new version contains a longtime expected feature, the categories. If you have a portfolio, it will probably be divided into multiple services, so categories prove quite useful. If, on the other hand, you have a small portfolio, you can link directly from a menu to individual items. The new version has also improved SEO features, which you will see that are very important, if you want your clients to find you. The category structure helps with that, because it creates more keyword-rich pages.

The scrolling isn't such a big thing, as pagination was introduced. The slimbox is still kept for individual items in a category. As for the small link, this is an open-source project, please feel free to remove it from the code. If you need assistance with that, please let me know, although a small link on the bottom doesn't hurt anyone and it does me a huge favor. All the big components that are free in the Joomla extensions directory have some sort of a way to promote themselves.

If you would like the old version, which doesn't have all the SEO features, I can send that to you also.

Thank you for using JuliaPortfolio

Hi Adrian, Honestly when I installed the new Julia portfolio 2.0 I was very disappointed to see you took away the columns option so now if I have 20 photos they will have to scroll down the page. Could you please bring that back? And I tried the category option but the slimbox is disabled with this and when the image is clicked it goes to a new browser window to load and you have to click the back button and reload the page. And now I have a link to a pet website on my photo gallery http://www.pettalez.com What happened?

Hello

The problems are due to the use of wamp server that enforces the non usage of php short tags notations that are unfortunately used on some sentences in some component files.

Look at topic http://www.treidorinte.ro/support/view-postlist/forum-1-joomla-extensions/topic-32-julialocations-php-short-tags-notations-bug for a solution.

Hello

It would be very useful to have one more component parameter allowing to define the minimum user access level to publish
a location and to provide in the Published column, either the information "published" or "unpublished" if user has no rights to modify the status or to provide the action icons "Publish" or "Unpublish".

Regards

Daniel

Hello

Usage of accentuated languages like french that is using single quote in text phrases breaks totally the tabs panel in the details view.
If you put a single quote in the text of location Title, Contact Info and may be in Review contents (I was not able to test), the generated html contents is not properly escaped and destroys the javascript map creation sentence.
If I remove the single quote or escape it with \character, tabs are properly formatted (but the escape character is also displayed)

See pictures in appendix:
- tabs problem
- concerned html code source
- IE8 javascript error information

Can someone correct the problem or help give some indication to solve this problem (at DB save time or text restitution or both?).

Thanks in advance

Daniel

Hello

There are some sentences using php short notation in some files of the components and this provoques blank pages on server enforcing the non usage of php short tags notations like wamp server.

This concerns statements like: "<? "and "<?=".

Please find in appendix a corrected archive file. Corrected files are set with a 020210 date.
I do not change the components version.

Please note that 3 old unused files in the zip root directory.

Regards Daniel

Just a last thing

http://docs.joomla.org/Why_do_I_get_the_message_"Warning:_cannot_yet_handle_MBCS_in_html_entity_decode"

It was the message error i have after the server change i made.

So now i think it's more a problem with Jooma, don't know exactly

bye

Hi,

ok it seems to be an incompatibility between the application and differentes versions of PHP. I used the wamp' addons (PHP and Apache) to test it. The application works on the first test with PHP 4.4.9 and apache 2.0.X so it's cool for me. It would be great to make a test with differents versions of PHP and Apache to check compatibility

Bye

Well, probably it wouldn't have be of much of use, anyways, since there is no search plugin for it yet, so you would still need to develop one. But it's a good starting point..

Hello,

no problem, good luck for your exam ;o)

About the version of JuliaLocation, it's the version I dowloaded on this website, so it should be the last one.
About Joomla! and PHP 5.03: I have tested several applcations (plugins, components etc...) and for the moment
juliaLocation is the first componant that i have a problem with arghhh ;o( I was searching exactly for this application and i couldn't believe my eyes when i discovered it ;o) But, there is always a "But" ;o)
