New Joomla component - JuliaLocations PDF Print E-mail

For a while now, a new extension was available for download in the member section of this website. A lot of you, my visitors, didn't download it not knowing what it is used for. I found today a 15 minutes interval that allows me to shine some light upon this new component.

JuliaLocations is this new and awesome component that will allow you to define some locations types and add locations to these types. To be more specific, the location types can be any type from hotels, restaurants, clubs to stores, public institutions and so on.

By defining these types, you allow your visitors to add locations to these categories and to manage them. They can upload unlimited number of photos, they can point on a map the exact location of the entry, they can write down the opening hours for each entry.

You can display these locations by linking to the default layout from a menu element. The entries are displayed in a nice pagination output. You can filter the entries to display only locations of a certain type linked to the specific men element.

You can click on "View details" to view all the data on a specific location in a nice tabbed interface, with location photos, reviews, location on map and opening hours.

The component allows users to review the location, with only one review per account and per ip address. This will ensure the quality of your reviews. You can publish and unpublish reviews from the backend, as well as locations.

To allow your visitors to post locations, you must link a menu item (called "My locations" or whatever you want) to the Userpage layout. This will display a control panel for your users. Locations will be added as unpublished and they will also be unpublished automatically after each modification.

The component is a 1.0 version and new versions will come soon.

Thank you for using JuliaLocations and enjoy it.

    hi

any demo for that nice comp?
    thanks

  • 2) Issues?

    Author: dosboy

Not sure if these are issue or by design, but from your description it implies that I'm able to zoom in on the map and create pushpins. This isn't possible - or I'm doing something wrong. Nor does adding the street address add the pin (I'm in Thailand, and Google Maps street names/directions are pretty bad here).

    Any documentation available?

In the add location interface you can move the predefined marker. If you don't see a marker, something is wrong

  • 4) Great Component - Needs Work Though

    Author: katina

Julia Locations is a great idea in its current phase. We've installed it on our site www.nolaboroflove.org.

Things that would make it more user-friendly include:

1.) Display page – should include photos for each entry w/ a default image for entries that don’t have photos

2.) There’s a problem with the Google Map – it’s pre-set to Romania; Developers should be able to set the map focus on the back-end as with other extensions that contain Google Maps.

3.) Entries should be sortable by location type – right now they all load on the page in the order they were entered.

4.) Zip code should display after city and state instead of after street address.

5.) It’d be great to have a YouTube plug-in so people can post video.

6.) Location Types – on back-end, developer should be able to re-order. Right now, Location types load in out of order and do not self-alphabetize. Ugh!

7.) Developer should have the option of allowing multiple authors for entries.

Hopefully, some of these changes will com down sooner than later... Pretty please.

  • 5) Just needs filered search

Fantastic component my frend. What you must do to finish it is add search (filtering) options. Filter by country, city, ... it will be more than useful!

    Regards from Macedonia.
